Cheltenham's newest aesthetics clinic, °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð, offers laser hair removal using medical grade machines, delivered by highly qualified professionals.
SoGlos sits down with clinic manager, Naomi, to find out how laser hair removal works, the difference medical grade lasers make, and why °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð is on a mission to make these confidence-boosting treatments more accessible.
How does laser hair removal at °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð work?
Laser hair removal works through a process called photothermolysis. The laser is attracted to the melanin – the pigment – in the hair and it goes right down to the root and kills it off from the blood supply. The hairs need to be in the anagen, or growth, stage of the cycle, when they're attached to the blood supply.
For most clients, their laser hair removal journey is between eight and 13 sessions – and they come in around every six weeks, in line with their hair growth cycle.
The biggest benefits are seen after you finish your course of treatment, where you can expect up to 90 per cent hair reduction. Clients then tend to come in once or twice a year to maintain that.
The lasers we use at °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð are medical grade and FDA approved, so they're very high-standard machines. And it's the same with our aestheticians – they are all Level 4 qualified.
What are the main differences between a medical grade laser and other laser devices you might find in beauty salons?
The technology! At °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð, our machines have a dual wavelength – this means we can treat all skin types. All clients need to be physically suitable for laser treatment with us is to have dark hair.
Not all laser machines can offer that, some will only offer a wavelength suitable for certain skin types.
And a lot of the machines found in smaller salons might offer things like IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), which is a scattered light, so it's amazing for skin treatments, but for hair removal, it's not as direct as laser treatment.
Medical grade, FDA-approved laser machines like ours are scientifically proven to give amazing results.
Is laser hair removal painful? And are there any side effects?
The lasers we use counteract the heat that goes into the skin with cold air, which makes it virtually pain free with minimal discomfort after treatment.
Most clients come away from a session with a little bit of redness and swelling of the hair follicles – which is a good response. That tends to last for 24 hours, but isn't anything that will restrict your day-to-day life.
A lot of people come to us on their lunch break, or after work – and as long as they're not planning a gym session the next day, they're absolutely fine to go about their usual activities.
We recommend all clients use our Laser Aid Gel for two days after, as this really helps to go deeper into the skin and provide further cooling, and avoid the sun for a week on any areas you've had laser, as laser hair removal can make you more susceptible to sun exposure.
Compared to things like waxing, where you can pull, bruise or tear the skin, there's nothing like that with laser treatment.
Is laser hair removal suitable for people with sensitive skin?
As long as clients don't have a diagnosed autoimmune condition and they're not on any skin-altering medications, then sensitive skin can definitely have laser.
Can laser hair removal be used on the face?
Definitely. We have different tools to use with the laser to target different hair types.
Because the hair on the face can sometimes be thicker, or finer, we'll tailor the treatment to what works best for you.
Is laser hair removal effective for hormonal hair growth from conditions like PCOS?
As a company, we have a lot of people that come to us that have PCOS. The waiting list to get treatment through the NHS is quite long, and not everyone falls into a category where they're suitable, so we help a lot of clients who have those kinds of conditions.
It's often life changing for them. It's very common with PCOS to get hairs on the face or neck, so the thinning and slowing of that hair growth changes so many things. If they're used to shaving their face every day, for instance, that could go down to once a week after three sessions – and the hairs are often so much finer that the follicles aren't as noticeable either.
All the way through the treatment, they can see that difference – and it's a joy for us to know that they're going to see amazing results at the end. It's really rewarding.
How long does a typical course of laser hair removal take?
On average, around 12 months. For the face we recommend coming every four weeks, for the body every six weeks, in line with the hair growth cycle. You see the best results coming at those intervals.
How much does laser hair removal cost compared to other methods like shaving and waxing?
A Hollywood wax typically costs between £35 and £50 pounds each time, at least once a month. You could get Hollywood and underarm laser for £29 every six weeks, so not only are you spending less, you'll only be spending that for around 12 months, then perhaps another £29 per year thereafter getting a top up.
At °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð our prices are very competitive. Our mission is to be able to offer really high-quality treatments with medical grade machines at an affordable price.
What are the benefits of going to a qualified professional for aesthetic treatments?
Going to someone who's a medical practitioner is so important, especially for things like fillers. They've gone through so much training to be able to anticipate and deal with every circumstance, and they know the right things to suggest.
That's not to say beauty therapists aren't good at their profession, but they often rely on qualified people off-site who haven't ever seen the person who is having the treatment.
For us, we see you personally in clinic. Our professionals know whether you're suitable for treatment or not, they can go into depth on any side effects which you might be concerned about, they can talk to you about treatment outcomes, and you're within our care throughout the whole of your treatment plan.
We'll always be here to answer questions or queries, you can come in if you need a review. Having that all-round care is super important for us.
What's the first step for someone interested in having laser hair removal at °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð?
We highly recommend having a consultation, the main reason being that it helps clients understand the ins and outs of laser treatment. We can advise you of what to expect from the treatment process; home care; aftercare; what to use and what not to use after your laser.
We can also tailor a treatment package that's bespoke for you and offers the best value.
There's a team of two who do the consultations, myself and my front-of-house, Cerise – and if it's me you see for the consultation, it's me you're going to see for your treatment.
If you're not used to having treatments like Hollywood, it can be scary the first time, so we want to make that experience as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
Getting to know us in the clinic, seeing a familiar face when you come in – and someone who's excited to hear how your treatment is going and keep track of your progress – it makes all the difference.
We offer free consultations at °Õ³óé°ù²¹±è¾±±ð Cheltenham and we're also hosting an open event on Thursday 25 June 2026, where we're offering tasters and we'll have practitioners doing demos, as well. These events always have such great energy so please come along!
